Frequently asked questions
+Are my images stored on a server?
No. Conversion runs entirely inside your browser and your images are never sent to a server. Close the tab and they disappear from memory.
+Do I have to choose the input format?
No. We read the first bytes of the file (the magic number) to determine its real format, so a file named .jpg that is actually a WebP is handled correctly.
+Can it convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. HEIC/HEIF files can be converted to JPG, PNG, WebP and more. The decoder is downloaded the first time you convert a HEIC file, so that first run may take a few seconds.
+What happens to the background when I convert a transparent PNG to JPG?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color. It's white by default and you can change it in the options.
+How many files can I convert, and how large can they be?
There's no limit on the number of files, but each file can be up to 50MB because of browser memory. When you convert several files you can download them all as a ZIP.
+Can I set an exact size, such as 256×256?
Yes. Choose 'Set exact size' under Size and enter the width and height in px. For images with a different aspect ratio you can stretch or squash them, keep the ratio and center them with the leftover area transparent (or filled with a color), fill the frame and crop the overflow, or place them at their original size in the center. The same settings apply to all files at once.
+Can I convert PNG to SVG? What should I watch out for?
Yes, choose SVG as the output format. But this isn't an exact copy of the original; it is tracing (an estimate) that redraws areas of color as shapes. It works well for logos, icons and flat-color illustrations, but photos and images with many gradients come out rough and the file can be much larger than the original. Text becomes shapes and colors are simplified to the number you set. Be sure to read the notice before converting and the warnings after.
+Why can't I save as AVIF?
Browsers can only encode AVIF files in a few environments so far. In browsers without support the AVIF button is disabled; the latest Chrome may work.
